According to the 2019 Youth Risk Behavior Survey, approximately 18% of NY high school students seriously considered attempting suicide and approximately 8.5% made a suicide attempt in the 12 months prior to the survey.
This self-directed, online training is designed to meet the basic awareness needs of ALL school staff, including teachers, support staff, administrators and mental health professionals. Emphasis is on recognizing warning signs, understanding what it means to create a caring and competent school community, identifying the protocols in place at school to support a student with thoughts of suicide, and making a warm hand-off.
Individual staff are encouraged to take the training on their own.
